LASER HAIR REMOVAL

During laser hair removal, a laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The skin and follicles that produce hair are damaged, inhibiting or delaying future hair growth.

What the treatment involves

Laser hair removal directs light at the pigment in the hair follicle. Because follicles are not all in the same phase of their growth cycle at the same time, the treatment is done as a course of sessions spaced out over months rather than as a single appointment — each session reaches the follicles that happen to be active at that point.

How many sessions you need, and how far apart, depends on the area being treated, your hair and skin colouring, and factors such as hormonal influences on hair growth. We will give you a realistic plan at your consultation rather than a number off a price list.

How to prepare

Shave the area shortly before your appointment — but do not wax, pluck or use epilation for several weeks beforehand, because those remove the follicle the laser needs to find. Avoid deliberate sun exposure and self-tanner in the run-up, as a tan changes how your skin responds.

What it feels like, and afterwards

Most people describe the sensation as a quick snap with a cooling feeling alongside it. Some redness and a warm, slightly swollen feeling around the follicles afterwards is normal and usually settles within a day.

Afterwards, protect the area from sun and skip heat — hot showers, saunas, heavy workouts — for the rest of the day. We will give you specific aftercare for the area treated.

Is it right for you?

Results vary with hair and skin type, and it is more accurately described as long-term hair reduction than permanent removal. The honest answer for your particular case comes from a consultation — we would rather tell you in advance if you are not a good candidate. See our before and after results or ask us a question.
